macOS Compatibility

Method Rating Notes
Native Perfect GD 2.2 works smoothly, however is capped on 60FPS.[1]
Rosetta 2 Perfect GD 2.2 is still Intel-only but it runs very smoothly even with high object count levels.[2]
iOS/iPadOS App Perfect Crash bug has been fixed in v2.2
Compatibility layer
CrossOver Perfect Stable 120FPS, even with high object count levels.[3]
Wine Perfect
Virtualization
Parallels Perfect Stable 120FPS, even with high object count levels. Has higher audio latency though, use CrossOver if you can.[4]

Other information

  • Game appears to be locked to 60FPS on all Macs - Apple Silicon or Intel.
  • The game still runs on OpenGL for graphics, which means it'll run on non-Metal legacy Macs if you really wanted it to.
