Cities: Skylines II

From AppleGamingWiki, the wiki about gaming on M1 Apple silicon Macs

macOS Compatibility

Compatibility layer Rating Notes
CrossOver Menu Can get into the game with all the graphics set to the lowest value, but freezing at the main menu. [1]
Wine Playable Runs with playable framerates on M1 Max on "Very Low" graphics preset and depth of field disabled. [2]

As per the Whisky Game Support page:

  • Create a new Windows 10 bottle
  • Install in Steam as normal
  • Go back to Whisky, and press File > Kill All Bottles
  • On your bottle click Winetricks...
  • Run the following command: dotnet48 win10
  • Note: This WILL require user interaction and will likely take a rather long time to complete
  • Find Bottle/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Cities Skylines II/Cities2_Data/Plugins/x86_64/cohtml_Unity3DPlugin.dll
  • Change value in cohtml_Unity3DPlugin.dll at offset 0xBC0E from 0x0F84 -> 0x0F85 using a hex editor of your choice.
  • Note: If the value at this offset has changed, please wait for the instructions to be updated accordingly.
  • Start Cities: Skylines 2 from Steam as normal
  • Warning: Tabbing out will cause the game to become unresponsive and require it to be restarted. Do not change window focus while playing.
  • Subsequent launches may fail to open the Paradox Launcher. This can be resolved temporarily by deleting the Paradox Interactive folder in Program Files. Reinstalling the launcher may also be required.
Virtualization
Parallels Playable Runs ok with Medium settings on M2 max, check developper note (25th of October) to improve fps. [3]

Barely runs on base M2 with "Very Low" presets and depths of the field disabled. [4]

When using selection tools, maps turn yellow/dark.

TO FIX IT : (thanks to SonoSoos and NATO boy) source : https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3060917631

1. Open Steam, right click Cities:Skylines 2, Properties. In General, add --developerMode into the launch options.

2. Load into your savegame/Start a new game, press Tab. After a few seconds of freezing, a slightly transparent black window will pop up on the left.

3. Click on GameRendering (2nd row, 3rd option).

4. Scroll down using scrollwheel or touchpad, dropdown arrow with name "Custom passes". Click on the arrow to open it.

5. 2nd checkbox, uncheck Tunnel Pass. This will get rid of the invisible yellow tint, but underground roads will be invisible (you have to find underground roads using the road upgrade tool or the bulldozer).

6. You can hide the debug window by pressing Tab again.
